Time tracking for freelancers and the self-employed
As a freelancer you are your own office. Hours for three clients, a timer you forgot to stop and a client who wants a signed timesheet before paying. TimeTracking keeps your hours per client, gets them approved and hands you a clean export for invoicing.
How freelancers use TimeTracking
Add your clients and projects
Each client gets its own projects, so every hour lands in the right place. Non-billable work such as admin or acquisition can be a project too.
Track as you work
Start the timer on your phone or in the browser, or enter hours afterwards. Mileage, travel time and expenses with a receipt photo sit next to the hours on Core.
Let the client approve
At the end of the week or month, the client receives a secure magic link, checks the hours and approves them. No account needed on their side.
Export and invoice
Export the approved hours per client as CSV or XLSX, or pull them through the API, and create the invoice in the tool you already use.
Hours per client, without a second job in admin
Most freelancers work for a handful of clients at the same time, sometimes for two on the same day. TimeTracking records every hour against a client and project, so at the end of the month you know exactly what each client owes you and where your week actually went.
The timer keeps running when you close the app or the phone restarts, and hours entered without signal are queued until you are back online. In the web app the same timer and manual entry are available on your laptop.
- Hours per client and project
- Timer on phone and web, manual entry afterwards
- Billable and non-billable work apart
- Reports per client for any period
Client sign-off before the invoice
An invoice gets paid faster when the client has already agreed with the hours behind it. With client approval, your contact receives a secure, expiring link by email or SMS. They see the hours per day and project, approve the period or reject a line with a comment, and their name and the time of approval are recorded.
Many clients, especially larger ones, ask freelancers for an approved timesheet anyway. Instead of sending a spreadsheet for a signature, you send a link and keep the approval on record. Client approval is part of Core.
We do the hours, your invoicing tool does the invoice
TimeTracking does not create invoices and is not an accounting package. It produces approved hours and exports them per client as configurable CSV or XLSX files, or through the open API, ready to import into the invoicing or bookkeeping tool you already use.
That keeps your setup simple: one tool for time, one for money, and no duplicated client lists that drift apart.
Mileage, travel and expenses with the hours
Travelling to a client is part of the job, and so are the parking ticket and the train fare. On Core, mileage, travel time and expenses are recorded next to your hours, with a photo of the receipt. AI reads the amount and date, so you only check them.
Everything is approved together with the hours and ends up in the same export, so nothing gets forgotten when you invoice the client.
From one freelancer to a small collective
TimeTracking is free for up to 5 users, which covers time tracking, the apps and exports. When you want client approval, mileage and expenses, Core costs €1 per user per month, with no seat minimum and no add-ons.
Working together with a few other freelancers on a larger project? Invite them, and each person tracks their own hours while the client approves the whole team in one go.
Your data, hosted in the EU
Your hours and your clients' names are business data. TimeTracking is hosted in the EU, takes no screenshots and does not monitor keystrokes or apps. It records the time you choose to record, nothing more.
You can export everything at any time, so you are never locked in.
Frequently asked questions
Is TimeTracking free for freelancers?
Yes, for up to 5 users, including time tracking, the apps and exports. Client approval, mileage and expenses are part of Core at €1 per user per month.
Can TimeTracking create my invoices?
No. It exports approved hours per client as CSV, XLSX or through the API, so you can create the invoice in your own invoicing tool.
Does my client need an account to approve hours?
No. The client approves through a secure, expiring magic link sent by email or SMS. Their name and the time of approval are recorded.
Can I track hours for several clients on the same day?
Yes. Every entry belongs to a client and project, and you can switch the timer between them as often as you need.
Does TimeTracking take screenshots or track my activity?
No. There are no screenshots, no keystroke logging and no app monitoring. Only the hours you record are stored.
Can I track non-billable hours too?
Yes. Add a project for admin, acquisition or training and track it like any other work. Because it is its own project, reports show it apart from client work.
