Time clock kiosk on a shared tablet
Not every worker has a company phone, and not every site allows personal phones on the floor. A kiosk tablet at the entrance gives everyone the same simple way to clock in and out.
How the kiosk works
Set up a tablet
The office creates a kiosk link and opens it in the browser of a shared tablet. The link is stored on the tablet, and can be limited to one client or location.
Clock in with a personal PIN
Workers enter their personal 6-digit PIN and tap once to clock in. At the end of the shift they enter it again and tap once to clock out.
Hours appear immediately
Entries land in the same timesheets as the mobile app. On clock-out the break is deducted according to Dutch rules, so the hours are ready for approval.
Simple for workers, reliable for the office
The kiosk shows a few large buttons and nothing else. Workers don't need an account, an email address or a phone, and each worker sees the kiosk in their own language, with 20 languages to choose from. That makes it a good fit for flex workers, temporary staff and teams where people rotate between sites.
A kiosk can be limited to one client or location, so every clock-in automatically carries the right location and client.
- Personal 6-digit PIN per worker
- One tap to clock in, one tap to clock out
- Break deducted per Dutch rules at clock-out
- Runs in the browser on any shared tablet
Protected against guessing, no face recognition
Each worker has their own 6-digit PIN. After 5 wrong PINs the tablet locks for 15 minutes, so nobody can try codes until one works. Every clock-in and clock-out is recorded with the time and the kiosk it came from, giving the office an audit trail when something seems wrong.
The kiosk takes no photos and does not use face recognition or other biometrics. That keeps it on the right side of privacy rules and works councils. Photo check-in, QR codes and NFC tags are planned, but not available today.
Mix kiosk and mobile
Many teams combine both: the kiosk at the main site, the mobile app, with a timer that survives restarts and an offline queue, for people who work on the road. All hours end up in the same period, ready for approval and payroll export.
Setting up a kiosk well
Mount the tablet where people pass at the start and end of every shift, such as the staff entrance or next to the lockers, and keep it on a charger. The kiosk needs an internet connection, so make sure the spot has stable Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Large sites can use more than one tablet, each limited to the same client or location. Hand out PINs personally and ask workers to keep them to themselves, so every clock-in can be traced back to the right person.
- Place it where every shift passes
- Several tablets per site if needed
- Make sure the spot has a stable connection
Frequently asked questions
Which tablets does the kiosk run on?
The kiosk runs in the web browser, so any iPad or Android tablet with a modern browser works. The office sends a kiosk link that is stored on the tablet.
Do workers need their own account?
No. Workers identify with a personal 6-digit PIN. They don't need an email address or a phone.
Does the kiosk use face recognition?
No. The kiosk does not take photos and performs no biometric face recognition. Workers identify with their personal PIN, and 5 wrong attempts lock the tablet for 15 minutes.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The kiosk needs an internet connection to clock in and out. An offline mode is planned but not available today, so place the tablet where the connection is stable.
