A line for each day from 1 to 31, with start, end, break and hours. Good for monthly payroll, part-timers with changing days and anyone who prefers one sheet a month.

## Download the template

- [Download Excel (XLSX)](https://timetracking.tech/downloads/en/monthly-timesheet.xlsx): Formulas calculate hours per line and the total. Works in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and Numbers.
- [Download CSV](https://timetracking.tech/downloads/en/monthly-timesheet.csv): Headers and pre-filled days, no formulas. Opens in any spreadsheet app or import tool.

## How to fill in the monthly timesheet

1. **Write month and year**: Fill in employee, employer and the month at the top. Cross out days that do not exist in that month.
2. **Fill in worked days**: Enter start, end and break for each day worked. Leave days off empty.
3. **Mark leave and sickness**: Write leave, sick or public holiday in the notes so payroll knows why a day is empty.
4. **Total and sign**: Check the monthly total, then employee and manager sign.

## What is on the sheet

The first column holds the day of the month, from 1 to 31. Next to it are start, end, break in minutes, hours, project or task and notes. With one line per calendar day the sheet doubles as a small attendance record: an empty line with a note shows straight away whether a day was leave, sickness or simply not a working day.

## Tips for a monthly sheet

A month is long, so fill the sheet in daily rather than from memory at the end. Use the 24-hour clock and record breaks in minutes. Overtime rules often work per week, so do not rely only on the monthly total; look at the weeks inside the month as well.

Payroll needs decimal hours: 152 hours 30 minutes is 152.5. The Excel file shows decimals automatically.

## Records and rest times

A monthly sheet shows hours, but not always whether rest times were respected. If your team works shifts, check the rest between the end of one day and the start of the next. The labour-law pages list the statutory minimums per country, with links to the official sources.

## When an app is the better choice

A monthly sheet means a month of hours in someone's bag before anyone checks them. Mistakes surface at payroll time, when they are hardest to fix. An app records hours as they happen and lets you close the month with a locked period and a clean export.

TimeTracking is free for up to 5 users. Core costs €1 and Pro €3 per user per month, with no add-ons and no seat minimum. People record hours on their phone or on a shared kiosk with a personal PIN, clients approve through a secure magic link with a one-time email code, and payroll gets a CSV or XLSX file (or the SD Worx format) instead of a stack of sheets to retype.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why are there 31 lines?

So the same sheet works for every month. Cross out the days a shorter month does not have.

### Where do I record leave or sickness?

In the notes column of that day. Leave start and end empty so the day does not count as worked.

### Can I use this for an hourly-paid employee?

Yes. Multiply the monthly total in decimal hours by the hourly rate. For overtime rates, check the hours per week first.
