**Definition:** A placement is the assignment of a specific worker to a specific client for a period of time, usually by a staffing agency. It carries the position, start and end date, pay and invoice rates, and who at the client approves the hours.

## Why hours belong to a placement

One worker can have several placements, at the same time or one after another, and each placement can have its own rates, allowance rules and approvers. Recording hours against the placement, rather than just against the person, makes sure the right client approves them, the right rates are applied and the right client is invoiced.

Placements also define what is plausible. Hours outside the start and end date of a placement, or overlapping hours on two placements, are a signal that something is wrong.

## Placements in TimeTracking

TimeTracking stores placements with client, contacts and dates, and links every recorded hour to a placement. Client approval links, conflict checks between the hours of the worker and those reported by the client, and anomaly detection all work per placement.
